One thing I thought could be fun to try is making new recipes. I tend to make the same meals over and over. I usually gravitate toward recipes that don't take much time or many ingredients to create. I'm all about quick and easy meals.
My sister-in-law makes a delicious chicken pot pie. She made it once when I went to stay with their family for a few days. It took me almost a year to ask for the recipe. She confirmed that it isn't too difficult to make.
Getting Started
I checked and re-checked the recipe several times while at the grocery store. I didn't want to miss anything. Once I got home, I was a little overwhelmed because there are quite a few ingredients in this recipe. There was also a level of excitement for trying something new .
Following the Process
Following a recipe has always been intimidating to me. I grew up watching my mom cook a lot and she rarely measures or uses a recipe. She can just make things that are delicious. I do not have that kind of confidence or knowledge. I check the amount of the ingredients a bunch of times and read the instructions over and over to ensure I don't do anything wrong.
I chopped all the veggies (the part that took the longest), cooked the chicken, and prepared the crust. Don't take it the wrong way, I did not make the crust from scratch. I used a frozen one. It took me a while to get it all prepared and ready to bake.
Final Results
I was nervous it would not be good or that I had messed it up somehow. I pulled the chicken pot pie out of the oven. Sure, it didn't look pretty, but it tasted dang good.
I made it for my boyfriend and I. It is something we will be making again. It does take preparation as there are some fresh ingredients needed and time for everything to cook and bake. All in all, it was enjoyable to spend some extra time to create something delicious. I did enjoy it, but not necessarily something I would want to do all the time. I will certainly work on adding new recipes to the rotation, though.
